BHOPAL: With the onset of monsoon in Madhya Pradesh, Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) has put in place a safety plan to evacuate people in case of flooding around reservoirs.
The contingency plan had been tailored with the district authorities and NVDA has already sanctioned money for its implementation at Sardar Sarovar, Indira Sagar, Omkareshwar, Maan, Jobat, Upper Beda dams. District administration is going to be the implementing agency of the safety plan under which flood affected people would be shifted to well-equipped temporary camps during emergency, officials said.
Under the plan, motorboats and other life-saving equipment would be stationed near the dams. , providing life jackets among other things, they added.
To keep a constant watch on water levels of major reservoirs flood control cell has been established in Narmada Bhawan at Bhopal, officials said.
The flood control room will record water level of various reservoirs at 6 AM, 12 Noon and 6 PM daily and disseminate this information to concerning district administration and officials.
